It is the only combination I've tried that worked. I tried Puppy Linux on a USB written from startup disk creator, inserted into USB-C hub (powered), and it actually worked. None of these combinations even showed a sign of booting or error - it just boots into Windows instead of the Ubuntu installer. I've tried 'alternate boot order' enabled and disabled. I've tried with UEFI security enabled and disabled. I've tried Ubuntu 16.04 using Rufus from Windows on the Surface (thinking it might be related to the issue mentioned in the install guide with 17.10 not booting due to graphics driver flipping out). I've tried writing Ubuntu 18.04 using Rufus from Windows on the Surface. I've tried writing an Ubuntu 18.04 ISO to the various media using startup disk creator in Ubuntu on my Dell laptop. I've tried booting from a USB stick plugged into the USB-C hub (powered and unpowered). I've tried booting from microSD in the microSD slot, in a SD-USB adaptor plugged into the USB-C via a USB-A to USB-C adaptor, in a USB SD reader, in a USB-C hub with SD reader (powered and unpowered). I've tried every combination I can think of but it never even boots the install image. I'm trying to get Ubuntu 18.04 installed on my new Surface Go, but absolutely failing at even running the installer.
